Oily Skin Beauty Makeup Tips

Having oily skin has some good points as well. Oily skin is less prone to signs of ageing like wrinkles, fine lines and so on. This is because the oil prevents moisture from getting lost from the outer layer of the skin.

Beauty Tips for Oily Skin:

Face masks are really effective:

After you exfoliate your skin, apply a face mask on your face. This you can do once in a week. Face packs or masks that contain Kaolin and Bentonite clay, Fuller’s earth and sandalwood are effective for oily skin as they can absorb the oil and keep you face fresh and healthy.

Weekly home beauty tips for oily skin: Homemade face masks

  • Mash a ripe papaya and mix it with half a lemon. Apply this on your face and massage gently. Wait for 15 to 20 minutes and then wash off with cold water. This helps in controlling the oil on your face.
  • Take a fresh apple and remove its skin. Cut it into thin slices and blend it well. Add 2 tablespoons of honey to it and mix well. Apply this paste on your face and wait for 15 to 20 minutes. Wash your face with lukewarm water. This controls the oil on your face and also keeps your skin hydrated.

Never skip a moisturizer:

Oily skin also requires moisturizing and hydration. So, you have to keep it well moisturized. If the skin is not well moisturized, the sebaceous glands produce more oil to compensate the lost moisture. Choose a moisturizer that is oil-free, non-comedogenic and water-based.

Scrubbing is best for oily skin:

When you have oily skin, exfoliating your skin twice a week is good for controlling oil. The excess sebum produced can lead to the formation of dead skin cells on the skin. This may cause pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and acne. Exfoliation of the skin helps in getting rid of dirt and dead skin cells and makes your skin fresh and rejuvenated. It is also good for getting rid of blackheads. When you scrub your skin, do it gently and do not be harsh on your skin.

Using alcohol free toner daily is good:

Toning your skin every day helps in the removal of excess oil as well as the dirt that may collect on the skin. Rose water is an excellent toner and you can apply this on your skin after you cleanse your face. You can also use an alcohol-free brand from the drug store for keeping the production of sebum under control.

Yes go for skin cleansing:

One of the ways to check excess of oil is to cleanse your skin and keep it always clean. Cleanse your face twice or thrice daily so that no dirt or oil accumulates on your skin, which can lead to acne, clogged pores and so on. For oily skin you can choose gel-based or foaming cleansers. The cleanser you choose must be oil-free. You can also choose medicated soaps for cleansing your skin. Remember not to go for abrasive cleansing because this may lead to the removal of natural oils from your skin, which in turn increases the production of sebum. Products containing salicylic acid, tea tree oil, honey, turmeric and neem are good for oily skin.

Yes you should always wear sunscreen:

Many women do not wear sunscreen because they think that it can make their skin look oilier. This can result in brown spots, pigmentation and freckles due to exposure to sun. So, it is important that you use a sunscreen even when you have oily skin. You can choose a gel-based sunscreen or one that will leave your face matte and provide adequate protection from the sun. Drink lots of water and this will remove toxins from the body and keeps your skin hydrated. Try to avoid junk and sugary foods and consume lots of fruits and green leafy vegetables. All these help in regulating the level of oil on your skin.

Makeup Tips for Oily Skin

Primer for your Skin:

First of all prime your skin. You can use a primer made for oily and acne prone skin. Do not use old primer as it may turn sticky and shinier after a few hours. A good primer absorbs the excess oil and provides a good base for the makeup. Apply it after you tone your face and apply moisturizer.

Choose good products to use on oily skin always:

Try to use minimum products on the face as oily skin looks best in that way. Use more concealer as it contains less oil compared to foundation. Use a foundation that is oil-free. You can also use mineral foundation, which helps in filling your pores and making your skin look even. Apply the foundation with your fingertips.

Focus on those parts:

After applying the foundation, wait for 5 to 10 minutes for it to settle on the skin. Now set the foundation by applying a translucent light powder. Focus more on the forehead and bridge of the nose as these are the areas that get oilier.

Use waterproof products

You may also apply blush and shadow if you wish so. For oily skin, powder based blush and eye shadow are better. Try to select water-proof makeup products because eyeliners and other such products may get messy when they come in contact with the oil on the skin. Water-proof products are not affected with the oil on the skin and remain longer. When you use makeup products in the powdered form, you have to blend them well to get an even look.

Makeup Spray before you leave:

Once you complete you makeup, use a makeup spray and set your makeup. This makes your makeup last longer. Just a few sprays will be enough. This prevents oil production and allows your skin to breath.
