Diluted vinegar and lemon juice rinse:

Add two tablespoon of vinegar or juice of a lemon to 1 cup of water and rinse your hair with this after you shampoo your hair. Then rinse your hair with tepid water. This can control oil in the hair.

Every alternate day Shampooing:

If you have oily hair, the sebum, dirt and the impurities will deposit on your scalp and clog the pores. So make sure that you shampoo your hair at least every alternate day. This will keep your scalp clean. When you apply the shampoo, rub your scalp gently with your fingertips. This prevents any scalp buildups.

Egg yolk and lemon juice:

Take two egg yolks and add a few drops of lemon juice to it, beat well and apply on your hair. Leave for a few minutes and rise off well.

Get oil treatments once a week:

Oiling the hair is necessary for the health of your hair and scalp. So, make sure that you treat your hair with oil once in a week. Take coconut oil and almond oil and mix them. Also add a few drops of tea tree essential oil. Apply this mixture on your scalp and hair. Leave for an hour and then wash with a good and mild shampoo. Hot oil treatment is also very effective.

Lemon:

Never over brush your hair:

Do not brush your hair too much if you have oily hair as it makes the oil to get distributed throughout your hair.

Oatmeal:

Oatmeal soaks oil from the scalp and also reduces itchiness.

Rinse thoroughly:

After applying the shampoo, rinse your hair well so that all traces of shampoo are removed. If not, it will attract more dirt and oil, and also cause damage to the hair.

Stop using serums and glossy gels:

Oily hair already has a shine of its own. So you need not apply any serums or glossy gels on your hair.

Stop scratching or rubbing scalp:

Rubbing with towel or scratching the scalp vigorously cause abrasions, oily dandruff or make the hair even oilier.

Shampoo your oily hair:

If your hair is oily, it is required that you shampoo your hair daily. This will help in keeping your hair clean and oil free. When you choose the shampoo, make sure that it is for oily hair. If your hair is dry, you can use a nourishing conditioner on the shafts of the hair only. If your hair as well as your scalp is oily, use shampoo for oily hair and this will be enough to keep your scalp and the hair oil free.

When you apply shampoo, massage your scalp well with the shampoo and make sure that the scalp and hair are clean. Since you are applying the shampoo daily, always choose a mild shampoo so that it does not harm your hair and the scalp.

Try Beer rinse:

Alcohol and beer are good for oily hair. Mix half a cup of beer or alcohol with two cups of water and use this as the last rinse. This reduces oiliness and helps in making your hair shine.

Similarly, tea rinse and mint rinse are also good for reducing greasiness.

Use special shampoos:

For oily hair, you must use shampoos that are specially formulated for oily hair. For normal hair you need shampoo with pH between 4.5 and 6.7. For oily hair the pH must be more than that.

Use conditioners carefully:

Conditioners are not good for oily hair as they only coat the hair. So apply them at the ends of the hair only if necessary.

Use Baby powder:

If you are in a hurry, sprinkle some baby powder on your hair, leave for five minutes and then comb your hair. This will remove excess oil.

Drinking lots of water and eating the right kind of food also helps in keeping your hair free from oil.

Shampooing less often prevents oily hair. Washing your hair every day strips it of natural oils and coats it with unnecessary chemicals and residue, leaving it limp and under-nourished. Find a shampoo that suits your hair type and wash every other day.
