How to Prevent Dandruff in Winter Season?

During the winter seasons your skin as well as your scalp turns dry. The dead cells from the scalp take a white powdery form and begin falling. So, you have to keep your scalp moisturized to get rid of dandruff.

Ways to treat dandruff in winter are:

Avoid Hair Stylers:

Using hair styling products is now common and it styles your hair and makes it look beautiful. But it contains lots of chemicals, which may affect your scalp. Try to minimize the use of such products in winter as your scalp is already dry and prone to get easily attacked by the chemicals present in these products. This may cause itchiness to the scalp and make it dry, and lead to the formation of dandruff.

Avoid Stress and Eat Healthy Food:

Dandruff may be caused if you are under extreme stress and also if you do not wash off the hair care products properly from the hair. If you are under stress, try to relax and take rest. You must also eat healthy food. When you use hair care products, make sure that you wash your scalp and the hair thoroughly, so that no remains of the products are left on your hair. You can use lemon water to rinse your hair as it is very effective in treating dandruff.

Best Conditioner:

If you want to prevent dandruff in winter, you can start with using a good conditioner that moisturizes your hair and prevents it from getting dry. Your scalp must always be kept hydrated in order to prevent dandruff. If the scalp gets dry, there is the chance of you getting dandruff. If you prefer to use herbal conditioners, test if you are allergic to the product you use by taking a small quantity of it and applying it on a small area. There are many people who are allergic to certain herbs and if they use them they will suffer from redness of the scalp, itching and so on. Always try to use conditioners that are of the best quality, so that they do not harm your skin.

Coconut Oil and Olive Oil:

Olive oil and coconut oil are excellent for your hair. Take some olive oil and coconut oil in a small bowl and warm the oil. Apply it on your scalp and hair and gently massage the scalp. Leave it for an hour and then wash off with a mild shampoo. Apply conditioner after shampooing your hair. You can also apply a few drops of aromatic oil on your hair like lavender oil, which makes the oil therapy even more effective. Treating your hair with these oils not only helps you to get rid of dandruff within no time, but it also provides you smooth and strong hair.

Frequent Washing damages Hair:

If you have a habit of washing your hair too many times, you must try to reduce it in winter seasons. Frequent washing of the hair may turn your scalp dry and as you know, this will lead to dandruff. Never use water that is too hot for washing your hair. This will dry your scalp further by washing away the natural oils that is present in your hair. You can use lukewarm water instead. This will not cause any dandruff formation in your hair.

Humidifier:

Winter seasons are often dry and because of the dry air, your skin and scalp turn dry. So, a humidifier is useful for keeping the air humid. It helps your skin to get enough moisture to keep it hydrated and prevent it from getting dry. When you use a humidifier, you must clean it every 2 or 3 days. If not, it may cause mildews and bacteria to thrive inside the humidifier and this may cause further health problems like infections, allergies and so on.

Massage Gently:

When you use shampoo and conditioners on your scalp, you must massage your scalp with them gently. Never rub them harshly on the scalp as it may remove the moisture from your scalp and make your scalp dry and flaky. Always use mild shampoos instead of strong shampoos. You may also use homemade shampoos, which do not contain any chemicals and therefore do not make your scalp dry.

Stop using Hair Colors:

Use of hair colors also make your scalp dry and cause dandruff. So you may either stop coloring your hair in winter or use hair colors that contains enough moisturizers to keep your hair moisturized.

Tea Tree Oil:

Tea tree oil, conditioners and some of the hair care products that are manufactured from tea tree oil greatly help you to retain the moisture in your scalp and to avoid the formation of dandruff. Take some tea tree oil on your finger tips and massage your scalp well twice a week. This will work wonders for your hair and prevents dandruff.

Use Special Shampoos:

There are special shampoos that are meant to treat dandruff in your hair. If you are suffering from dandruff, you may use them and get rid of dandruff. Before you use these shampoos, read the instructions given on them and then use them accordingly. Many of these shampoos are to be applied on the scalp and kept for 3 to five minutes. This enables the shampoo to react with dandruff and destroy them. So wait for a few minutes and then wash off with water to get best results.

Zinc and Vitamin B:

Including enough of vitamin B and zinc in your daily diet helps in keeping the scalp healthy and devoid of dandruff. Omega 3 fatty acids are also good for your scalp. Omega 3 fatty acids are contained in various foods like eggs, greens leafy vegetables, walnuts and so on. If you do not like to have green leafy vegetables, you can make a salad and put some mayonnaise on top of it. This will supply you with enough omega 3 fatty acids. It is good for preventing dandruff and also for your general health.

By following the tips mentioned, you need not worry about getting dandruff in winter and you will have a beautiful and strong hair that you will be proud of.
